Library Monitor
Do you get frustrated every time you realize one of your books is overdue from the library? Does it bother you that your library doesn't email you when your books are coming due? If so, then this widget is for you! The Library Monitor sits on your desktop and continually updates with the due dates of your books. You don't have to enter the information yourself, it automatically downloads it from your library's web site. The widget helps you keep track of when your books are due before they start costing you money!
The best part is, the widget is free! I made this for myself to stop getting fined and found it useful so I've decided to put it online. I hope it helps you both keep track of what books you have out and when they're due too!
If your library uses the Horizon Information Portal the widget can probably work for you. Currently it is configured for the Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa and New York public libraries.
Main Features
- Automatically retrieves and sorts your current library books and holds
- Materials that need to be returned or renewed are colour coded
- Clicking on the widget header will take you straight to your library account
- Updates itself periodically to remain current
Download
Installing the Library Monitor is simple! First you need to download the Yahoo Widget Engine, which works on both Macs and PCs You can download the widget engine here. Next all you need to do is click on the download button for the Library Monitor and you're off to the races!
Configuration
When you first load the Library Manager widget all you need to do is right click on the widget and choose preferences. In the preferences screen you need to enter your library id/pin and choose your library. Once that is done click ok and the details should be retrieved automatically. You're done!
If your library isn't listed in the drop-down library list you can select 'Custom Library' in the drop down and then enter the url for your library in the text field below. The URL should be from the http:// to the ipac.jsp. (e.g. https://catalogue.calgarypubliclibrary.com/ipac20/ipac.jsp). This should allow any library using the Horizon portal to work.
