Welcome to my random collection of tools. While I've made a lot of random little tools in the past, these are the ones that I've found the most consistently useful. CustomGoLinks can help you set up nice short easy-to-remember links, the AviWidget fills you in on what's going on with avalanche conditions in the backcountry of Canada, and the Library Widget helps you to keep informed of when your library books are coming due.

SimpleStream

SimpleStream

SimpleStream is a very simple web photo viewer. If you want to get a small collection of images online very easily, or want to be able to quickly add new photos every day (like a photo stream), then SimpleStream might be just for you. SimpleStream generates its display from the metadata in your photos so you can get pictures online easily without filling in lots of forms or fields.

SimpleStream is a self-contained PHP script that does not require a database to run.

CustomGoLinks

Custom Go Links

CustomGoLinks allows you to create short versions of long urls. These shorter versions are easier to send in emails or text messages, easier to remember, and allow you to update where the url points to if the original page happens to move.

While most short-link tools give you a generated url CustomGoLinks allows you to specify you own names.

Avalanche Widget

Avalanche Forecast Widget

If you're a backcountry winter enthusiast in Canada you can never keep too apprised of the avalanche conditions. While knowing the current forecast is helpful, understanding the trends throughout the season can increase your ability to analyse the conditions you may encounter while out in the snow.

The Avalanche widget can keep you informed as to what the conditions are doing in various areas throughout the season. The widget exists as a part of your desktop and you can easily consult it at any time.

Library Widget

Library Manager Widget

I hate library fines and I hate the fact that the library doesn't email me before my books are due. This widget sits on your desktop and lets you know how much time each of your books has before they start to cost you money.

If your library uses the Horizon Information Portal (you'd see a ipaq.jsp somewhere in the url when you navigate to your account) the widget can probably work for you. Currently it is configured for the Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa and New York public libraries.
